On April 21, 2012, East Asian Institute of National University of Singapore and CCG will co-hold China Higher Education Seminar in Beijing. It will investigate the current situation of China’s higher education, and present suggestions to China’s higher education reform.

Since the middle of 1990s, China’s higher education system has undergone unprecedented development and reformation. Now it has entered into a new phase. China’s cultural and social development not only provides more growth opportunities for China’s universities, but also requires higher-quality education to satisfy the progress of our society. In the process of China’s transformation from a populous country to a nation with plenty talents, higher education must shoulder greater responsibility at this critical moment.

It is advantageous for Chinese universities to improve its education quality thanks to the robust financial support provided by Chinese central and local government. However, the higher education still faces lots of challenges. National University of Singapore has conducted a research to investigate the progress and challenges of china’s higher education reformation. From Jan 2011, the research team led by Professor Yongnian Zheng had conducted their surveys in multilevel universities in Beijing, Xi’an, Wuhan, Shanghai and Hangzhou. By using the method of depth-interview and brainstorming, they have constructed a strategic "roadmap” for higher education reformation.

This seminar will be held at Sofitel Wanda hotel on April 21, 2012. Professor Zheng will introduce the research outcome to the participants.

The seminar is divided into three parts

(1)   China Higher Education Governance;

(2)   China Higher Education institutions’ knowledge innovation system;

(3)   China Higher Education institutions’ talents cultivation system.

This seminar will discuss how to make Chinese universities get back to its academic role, explore the next step of the Higher Education reformation, and propose relevant policy recommendations.
