For the past three decades, China has been working hard to make its people rich. Now, it must think about how to keep the rich at home. According to China's first annual Report of Chinese International Migration co-compiled by the Center for China and Globalization and the Beijing Institute of Technology, one-third of Chinese with a net worth of more than 16 million U.S. dollars has emigrated overseas. Some 50 percent of high-net-worth individuals are considering moving abroad. The key factor in play is education. Based on the report, many of China's super-rich have singled out a better education system in the West as the main driver of moving abroad. The migration report has shed light on the current living environment in China and raised concerns over a brain and capital drain prompted by an exodus of the country's wealthy population.

So what impact will the outflow of China's millionaires have on the country? And how can China work to retain talented people from both home and abroad?

Ni hao, you're listening to  \ People In the Know, bringing you insights into the headline news in China and around the world. I'm Zheng Chenguang in Beijing.

We speak to Dr. Wang Huiyao, Director General of the Center for China and Globalization and co-author of the Annual Report of Chinese International Migration, and Professor Liu Guofu from the School of Law at the Beijing Institute of Technology who is also the co-author of the Annual Report of Chinese International Migration.
